On Friday 3 December Bishop-in- Council approved the establishment of our newest mission district. Renew Anglican Church, at first a congregation plant from the parish of Lanyon Valley, has, since its establishment in 2017, grown to the point where it made sense to formerly separate from its mum church at the end of 2021. Renew is on the path to, Lord willing, becoming a new parish in the next few years. The Rectors from across Tuggeranong got together recently to sign memoranda of understanding between them and the new mission district, and to pray for one another. Reverend Gus Robinson from Arawang Anglican said, ‘It’s wonderful to see gospel growth in the south of Canberra, of which Renew is a significant part’. Reverend Steve Boxwell from Renew commented, ‘We love being a neighbouring church seeing Arawang pressing forward in sharing the gospel’.
Tuggeranong is growing up, more than it is out. The 2016 census listed the suburb of Greenway as having 1800 residents, but since then there’s been a flurry of high-rise apartment development in the area. Establishing a new mission district in the area in some ways signals that we’re all eager to get focussed reaching these people with the saving news and love of Jesus.

Renew Anglican Church’s vision is to see Canberra transformed by the love of Jesus, and the church will continue to do what they can to share of Jesus’ saving love in Tuggeranong. Reverend Anna Boxwell from Renew expressed thankfulness to the members of their planting church, Lanyon Valley, for the church’s prayerful and financial support of Renew over the first four years of Renew’s life. ‘Church planting is always a team effort, and we’re thankful for the way God has enabled generosity from our planting church and all those who have joined Renew since we launched in 2017. Isn’t it wonderful that each and every church can trace our lineage all the way back to the early church?’
