Spiritus Short Film Awards Screening

Wednesday 14 October 2026 | 6:30pm

The 2026 Spiritus Short Film Awards will bring audiences together at Canberra’s Dendy Cinemas to celebrate powerful short films exploring faith, meaning and the human spirit.

Film lovers, artists and seekers of deeper meaning are invited to gather at Canberra’s Dendy Cinemas on 14 October for the 2026 Spiritus Short Film Awards Screening, an event celebrating the power of storytelling to explore the spiritual dimension of life.

Established in 2015 by the Australian Centre for Christianity and Culture (ACCC), Charles Sturt University, the Spiritus Short Film Awards encourage the creation of short films that engage questions of faith, meaning, hope, purpose and the human spirit. The name Spiritus, a Latin word meaning “breath” or “spirit”, reflects the awards’ commitment to fostering creative works that explore the deeper aspects of the human experience.

The screening forms part of the Canberra Short Film Festival and will feature finalists selected from entries submitted by filmmakers from across Australia and beyond. Through a diverse range of stories and perspectives, audiences will have the opportunity to experience films that provoke reflection, inspire conversation and highlight the role of creativity in exploring life’s biggest questions.

The evening begins at 6:30pm with a screening of the finalist films. Award winners, including the People’s Choice Award, will be announced at approximately 7:45pm, followed by a reception in the Dendy foyer where guests can celebrate with filmmakers and fellow attendees.
