Many of us have friends, family and property down on the south coast and snowy mountains.
Our churches at playing an important role helping others in evacuation centres. Many communities have be touched by the fires. The outlook for other towns such Batlow and Tumbarumba looks deeply troubling. In the days ahead, they will play an even more significant role with recovery efforts.
Holy Covenant Jamison (89 Dexter Street, Cook) will host a prayer vigil for coastal communities affected by fire on SATURDAY 4 JANUARY from 10am until 12 noon.
This is an opportunity to pray for all those affected and involved in protecting lives and property. It is also a time to lament the devastation of forests and wildlife but to also pray for leaders and their response to the climate emergency.
The time is short because on a day of extreme heat, we also need to be mindful of our own wellbeing and that of our families who may need our attention as the heat and wind intensify in the afternoon.
By all means pass this note along to friends from other churches who may wish to join us.
